I have always been heavily involved in animal rescue - cats and dogs mostly ... an occasional bird ... once a goat ... and even a possum. The following are recent and past rescues/fosters. I will update occasionally ... because it is an ongoing part of my life.
Maisie Grace ... 7-8 weeks old. Found outside by a person's work place ... roaming around by herself. She will be placed. for adoption as soon as she is stable health-wise.
Rico ... March 2021
Hopes Haven rescue ... I foster Rico from March to middle of beginning of June 2021. He was rescued from a deplorable situation by Hopes Haven. Rico was covered in a fungus and lost all of his hair. He was kept in a backyard with no shelter 24/7. It took weeks of fungus treatment and a good diet to get his coat and health back.
Rico has made a full recovery. He will be going to his new family soon. What an amazing dog! He now weighs in at 103#s and is a picture of health. I had a wonderful experience fostering him and working with Marsha Chambers of Hopes Haven.
I have fostered over 800 kittens and adult cats through Salem Friends of Felines. Over the years of working with SFOF, the most rewarding fosters were the ones requiring serious medical attention.
Rocky is a rescue I was called on. Person finding him thought he had infected eyes. It turned out that he was born without eyes. Rocky is now 2 years old, and is what we call in rescue circles as a "foster failure". He now has a permeant home with me. Well ... unless t he perfect home for him suddenly comes up.
Fostering bottle babies is also very rewarding! I've probably fostered around 200. At this point in my life I've done my share ... so I now tutor anyone wanting to learn how to do it properly. I do, on occasion, take BB's in for a night or two ... until Friends of Felines can locate a foster to transfer them to.
